“ How do I write that down Miss?”  Seamless (and painless) Theory Integration

Music teachers have to do it all – teach students to play, to listen, to create music as well as teach them to read an entirely new language of dots and lines! For this they are sometimes given no more than 1 period a week. This workshop is designed to give teachers some practical ideas to take straight to their classrooms to include note reading into their already groovy music programs. Theory doesn’t have to hurt. It should be seamless and a natural process. This workshop will assist teachers to combine playing, notation and composition so that students feel they want to learn more about reading and writing notes and are excited by the idea of creating their own written piece of music. The workshop is aimed at student’s first day of note reading onward – whatever age that may come at.  Appropriate for anywhere from classroom grade 5 – 8.
